141 years after a Hawaiian queen visited Kauai, hula halau from around the state gathered to celebrate history on the Garden Isle on Sunday.
A woman playing the role of Queen Emma thanked the crowd for today in Koke'e during a cultural festival called 'Eo e E'malani i Alaka'i'.
The chanting and dancing featured during the celebration are part of a tribute commemorating Queen Emma's first trip to Kauai's Mountain Meadow back in 1871.
The ceremony on Sunday was the 24th year of the re-creation, which featured a full royal procession and hula performances in honor of the queen.
