Car crash causes power outages in Laie

A motor vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Laie early Saturday morning, downing several power lines and causing electricity outages for nearby residents.

Kamehameha Highway remains closed in both directions near Laie Shopping as crews from Hawaiian Electric work to replace the utility pole and restore power.

According to HECO, the crash knocked out power to 300 area customers, though service had reportedly been restored for all but 15 of those customers by about 10:30 a.m.
