SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team suffered its second straight shutout loss with a 1-0 setback to UC Santa Barbara Friday night at Harder Stadium.

The loss was UH's sixth in its last seven matches and its fifth straight road loss. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 6-7-2 overall and 1-3 in the Big West Conference.

Erin Ortega scored the match's lone goal early in the second half to give the Gauchos (4-9-2, 1-3-1 BWC) their first league win of the season and end a six-match winless streak. Ortega scored on a shot from 22 yards out off an assist from Sara Feder.

It was just one of two shots on goal for the Gauchos, who out-shot the Rainbow Wahine 17-8. UH registered three shots on goal for the match.  UCSB out-shot UH, 10-1, in the first half but wasn't able to breakthrough until its first shot of the second half when Ortega found the back of the net in the 49th minute.

The Rainbow Wahine out-shot the Gauchos, 7-6, the rest of the way, however they eventually suffered their  second straight shutout loss, the first time that has happened this year.

Hawai'i next faces Big West leader Cal Poly on Sunday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. PT (9:00 a.m. HT).
