Big Island police investigating fatal accident on Highway 11

Big Island police are investigating a deadly crash in Glenwood.

Crews were called to Highway 11 near the Hirano Store around 4:30 p.m. Thursday after a Ford station wagon and a Honda van collided.

Officials say the station wagon made an abrupt left turn into the store and the van struck the car from behind.

The station wagon's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a 33-year-old woman, was taken to Hilo Medical Center.

Her condition is unknown.

Police closed part of Highway 11 was temporarily closed in both directions at the 22 mile marker.
