What do you feel is the biggest issue facing the Hawaiian community today? And what would you do to solve it?

The greatest need of Hawaiians is to define ourselves and our relationship to others.  We must restore our identity as victors, not  victims;  benefactors, not mere beneficiaries;  providers,  not mere recipients; and leaders, not mere followers.  In relationship to others, we must model the Aloha Spirit of Queen Lili'uokalani who prayed that we would be forgiving, generous, and open to all peoples.  We need a new vision which restores the historic greatness of Hawaiian self-esteem, pride and influence as we determine our own futures and contribute to the greater good of all.  This will enable us, through efforts such as OHA and Hawaiian organizations, to create and collaborate with everyone in a new vision of Hawaii with democracy balanced by individual responsibility, educational advancement,  development of opportunities and resources, economic prosperity, environmental health, social harmony, and moral integrity.  Thus we perpetuate the life of the ‘aina i ka pono!
