HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

For the ninth week, gas prices in Hawaii increased slightly in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The Hawaii state average price paused at $4.41, the same price as last week, four cents higher than last month and 20 cents higher than last year.

Honolulu's average price ticked up to $4.35 a gallon for regular unleaded – a penny more than last week,  three cents more than last month and 26 cents higher than a year ago at this time.

In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.41 a gallon, unchanged from last week, three cents more than last month and eight cents more than this time last year.

Wailuku's average is $4.53 a gallon, two cents more than last week, 10 cents more than last month and nine cents higher than last year. In Lahaina, Kevin Olsen uploaded a photo to the Hawaii News Now Facebook page showing gas at $4.59.

"Prices here are mirroring small increases in many major cities on the mainland," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "We urge motorists to use a gentle driving style, carpool and maintain their vehicles for the best mileage possible."
