HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu police are looking for a U.S. Coast Guardsman reported missing by his wife.
Police found Aviation Survival Technician 1st Class Russell Matthews' car abandoned at the Mokuleia side of Kaena Point Tuesday night. He was last seen Tuesday afternoon driving a 2005 Subaru in Pupukea.
Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Gene Maestas said Wednesday Matthews is a rescue swimmer with 15 years of experience in the Coast Guard. He's been stationed at Air Station Barbers Point on Oahu for five years.
The police say Matthews is emotionally distraught, and that his friends and family are concerned for his welfare.
The Coast Guard is assisting the police in their investigation.
