What do you feel is the biggest issue facing the Hawaiian community today? And what would you do to solve it?
The biggest issue facing the Hawaiian Community today is the inability to earn enough money to meet the rapidly rising cost of living in Hawai'i. Having more than one job is becoming more common. Families are challenged physically and emotionally which leads to other issues such as domestic violence, homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse. Many Hawaiians have moved to the mainland because they cannot afford to live here. There is no quick or easy solution to this problem. Increasing income and decreasing expenses are solutions. I will support more scholarships and look into tuition waivers to give students incentives to continue their education and increase their income potential. I will support partnerships with financial institutions that provide low interest loans to help beneficiaries reduce their existing monthly notes.
