What do you feel is the biggest issue facing the Hawaiian community today? And what would you do to solve it?
Jobs, jobs, jobs. We need to train and place our young native Hawaiians into the workforce. This group of young adults suffers from the highest levels of unemployment and incarceration. My generation must do more through OHA to create conditions in which our young people have the chance to succeed. We owe it to them. I hope to work with other OHA trustees and get them to think about partnering with others in our community to develop our prime commercial lands to meet this challenge. There are many models and many types of investments that can trigger economic activity for revenue and program growth. Renewable energy is needed urgently in Hawaii, and is just one type of economic growth foreseen in OHA's future. Through my career as a coach, and as an educator, I have learned that teamwork brings us together, and only through teamwork, can the Hawaiian community succeed.
