(HawaiiNewsNow) - This summer, 17 year old Riggs Silva was assisting in a junior lifeguard program outside of Magic Island. He's a junior leader in the program and was helping with some of the drills. Riggs was outside the break when he heard a cry for help and saw a 13 year old boy struggling to stay afloat. Without hesitation, Riggs paddled over and pulled the boy onto his rescue board.
Once on shore, Riggs provided the boy with first aid for injuries he sustained from the reef. Riggs is a Senior at Kamehameha Schools and hopes to be a pilot. But his efforts in the water earned him the honor of being the American Red Cross of Hawaii Youth Hero!
