HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A week after a fatal stabbing at Ala Moana Shopping Center Honolulu Police investigators are out of leads and the victim's family is pleading with the public for help in catching the killer.
Brent Keola Kanae's family insists someone had to have seen or heard something, after all the murder happened at the state's busiest shopping center at 3:00 in the afternoon.
"Our son Brent Keola Kanae he was a loving and trusting person who had many family and friends," said Dale Kehau Kanae, victim's mom. "He was just a kid that was always happy and never thought badly of anybody."
The Kanae family can't believe how they went from the happiest place on Earth, to the saddest state imaginable. The family had just returned from Disneyland. The next day on October 3, Brent Keola went to lunch with friends to deliver gifts. Then he walked to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant where he worked as a cook for the past two years. He was stabbed and killed on the stairwell at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
"If anyone saw anything suspicious or has heard anything that may help HPD please come forward. Your help could be the missing piece we need toward solving our sons case," said Kanae.
There was nothing taken from him so it doesn't appear to be a robbery.
The 23 year old has no history of violence or criminal record and no known enemies or any reason for someone to attack him.
Police have no leads and no new tips.
"We'll take any information at this point and let the detectives piece together that information. You may not think it's important but it could be a piece of evidence we are missing right now," said Sgt. Kim Buffett, Honolulu CrimeStoppers.
