IRVINE, Calif. – (Hawaii Athletics) University of Hawai‘i outside hitter Emily Hartong captured her second Big West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor, announced Monday by the conference office. It was the second player of the week selection for Hartong, who guided UH to a 2-0 week.

The 6-2 outside hitter averaged 5.14 kills, 2.86 digs and 0.71 blocks per set as the Rainbow Wahine knocked off Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara on the road. Hartong buried 36 kills over the two matches and swung at a .281 clip as the ‘Bows improved to 7-0 in the Big West, a full two matches ahead in the loss column of their nearest competitor.

Hartong tallied 20 kills against Cal Poly on Friday, one off her season-high, to go along with nine digs and three blocks in the four-set victory. Versus the Gauchos the next night, she buried 16 kills and recorded 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. She hit .341 for the match as UH dominated the Gauchos with a sweep and improved to 14-2 overall.

Hartong, a 2011 AVCA Second Team All-American, will lead Hawai‘i into action this week against Cal State Northridge on Friday, Oct. 12. First serve at the Stan Sheriff Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
