HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In honor of October, which is National Disability Awareness Month, Lanakila Pacific today announced the official launch of its new web store, Lanakila Custom Products just in time for personal or business holiday gifts! Lanakila Custom Products offers quality custom apparel, promotional products and packaging services. Everything is printed locally, all while supporting employment opportunities for people with disabilities and Lanakila Meals on Wheels for Hawaii seniors.
"Lanakila's Social Enterprises create job opportunities for people with disabilities in a variety of fields while also generating revenue for our programs, making us less dependent on donations and grants," said Lanakila Pacific President and CEO Marian Tsuji. "Lanakila Custom Products, Lanakila Maintenance Services and Lanakila Kitchen and all fall within this initiative."
For the past five years, Lanakila's Custom Products division has quietly provided silk screening services for items such as tee shirts and hats. In 2011 Lanakila was awarded a grant from the Hogan Nonprofit Business Plan Competition at Chaminade University to create a dark room and upgrade equipment. In 2011 and 2012, Lanakila Pacific was awarded grants from the Sophie Russell Testamentary Trust to purchase a pad printer, to imprint promotional items such as pens, mugs, water bottles and flash drives and develop the online store. Just this year, Lanakila also began embroidering, vastly increasing its output capacity for custom products.
Three trainees (people with disabilities) are enrolled right now learning a new skill that will help them as they lead independent lives. Skill development concentrates on a combination of pre-employment assessments, occupational skills training, practical work experience and job coaching; all essential components in obtaining and maintaining employment.
"Very few people know they can purchase corporate gifts or even uniforms with Lanakila Custom Products," said Adam Beyer, Lanakila Custom Products Manager. "The great thing is, not only are the prices and quality competitive, but by buying local, it keeps the money working in Hawaii. The purchase also goes to not only provide opportunities for people with disabilities, but the profits go to help even more people by sustaining Lanakila Pacific's non-revenue generating services to the community including Lanakila Meals on Wheels."
Lanakila Custom Products is a division of Lanakila Pacific. With a mission to help people with disabilities, whether they be cognitive, physical, social or age-related challenges, Lanakila Pacific has helped thousands of people on Oahu and Kauai since 1939.
