Visitor dies after being pulled out of ocean by Spitting Caves

A visitor from California died on Saturday after being found floating face down in the area known as "Spitting Caves" near Portlock.

On Sunday, authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Daniel Lowe of Modesto, California.

A Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said the Lowe was with a group of people when he jumped into the water at just before 3:45 p.m., then could not get back up the cliff. He was reportedly found between 25-35 yards offshore.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

We will have more information on this developing story as it becomes available.
