Coast Guard rescues contractor on USNS Soderman

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point evacuated a contractor aboard the USNS Soderman operating off the coast of Hawaii, Thursday due to a medical emergency.

Coast Guard watchstanders in Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu were notified around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday that a contractor aboard the USNS Soderman, a U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command Army Prepositioned Stock ship, was showing signs of dizziness and dehydration and needed medical attention.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended medical evacuation, and at about 10:40 a.m. the Coast Guard launched the Dolphin crew to remove the patient.

The patient was taken to Hilo Medical Center in Hilo, Hawaii in order to receive medical treatment.
