Honolulu fire arson investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that destroyed a Pearl City home Thursday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire on Hookani Street at about 1 a.m.
Firefighters immediately began a defensive battle on the flames. The focus was to stop the fire from spreading to nearby homes that had been evacuated.
Homeowner Judith Keomalu was not home during the fire, but after arriving on scene and seeing what little is left of the house, she believes it was intentionally set.
"It looks like a crime scene," Keomalu said.
There was one fire related injury; paramedics say an 80-year-old man who lived across the street was taken to the hospital after the fire triggered an ongoing medical condition.
Damage was estimated at $290,000 to the building and contents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
