Officials say a U.S. Border Patrol agent is dead and another has been wounded in a shooting near the U.S. border with Mexico in Arizona. The Border Patrol says the agents were shot while patrolling early today in Naco. The border patrol station there is named for Brian Terry, the last U.S. Border Patrol agent who was fatally shot while on duty.

RUNNING MATES CARRY THE CAMPAIGN BALL TODAY

The presidential candidates are laying low today, practicing for their debate in Denver, while their running mates try to take care of campaign business in swing states. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is making three stops in Iowa today while Vice President Joe Biden campaigns in two North Carolina cities.

    Nearly a year after a landslide in Kipahulu, repairs are getting underway to fix parts of Piilani Highway at the Nuanualoa Gulch. The repairs are part of a 7-month-long, nearly $2 million project. Daily road closures will begin February 5th as Hawaiian Dredging Construction crews bring in equipment to build a retaining wall, put up guard rails and complete other safety measures.
