Respected Chaminade professor dies

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Chaminade's director of Native Hawaiian Partnerships, Henry Halenani Gomes died Tuesday night after a long battle with cancer.

During his 30 years at Chaminade, Gomes held many positions including biology professor and associate provost.

"Please join me in praying for Henry's eternal rest as well as the consolation of his wife, Alyssa, his daughters, Jeannette and Rebecca, all of his extended family and many friends who mourn his death," said Bro. Bernie Ploeger, President, Chaminade University.

Funeral services will be held on the Chaminade campus, Friday, September 28. 

The schedule will be:

  • 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.          Visitation, Mystical Rose Oratory
  • 5:45 p.m.                     Mass of the Resurrection
  • 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.         Reception, parking lot of Mystical Rose Oratory

The reception will include song and hula tributes.

Gomes was the Chair of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu Scholarship Committee, the President of Hawaii Maoli (a non-profit Native Hawaiian organization), and the Chair of the board of the Hawaii Council for the Humanities. /node /buildmode /main-content /main /main-wrapper /content-area
