Kauai Police along with officials from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) removed an illegal campsite in Hanapepe last Thursday.

Police say the resident of the campsite, 54-year-old Raynard Arizo, was arrested for Drug Paraphernalia and third degree Promotion of a Dangerous Drug.

The joint investigation was initiated as a result of concerns raised by community members. The campsite was located on Puolo Road at the Hanapepe Beach Park and included two vehicles, an illegal structure and numerous miscellaneous items.

"With the help of DLNR, we were able to dismantle the illegal structure, haul two dump trucks worth of items, and remove two derelict vehicles over the course of two days," said Assistant Chief of the Patrol Services Bureau Ale Quibilan. "We executed a drug-related arrest and most importantly, we were able to return this portion of the park back to the public. We hope park-goers feel a little safer now that the area is clean and clear of debris."

Police are continuing their investigation.
