Hiker in critical condition after 300-foot fall

KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 30-year-old Mililani woman is in critical condition after falling more than 300 feet from a trail above the St. Stephens seminary on the Pali highway.

Honolulu fire officials say the woman was hiking a dangerous trail called "Pali Notches" with two other men when she fell.

One of the hikers says the ground gave way beneath the woman's feet. She tried to grab some nylon webbing, but that gave way too. When she hit the bottom, they could hear her screaming in pain.

It took rescuers three hours to reach the injured woman. The two men were not hurt but, were also rescued off the ridge.

The Honolulu Fire Department's Air-1 helicopter assisted in the rescue. The woman was taken to the Queens Medical Center.
