HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – JobQuest, the largest job fair in Hawaii, signed up a record 187 employers for its Tuesday session at Neal Blaisdell Center.

"That's up from 178 at the fair we held in May," said organizer Beth Busch. "Twelve of the exhibitors are joining us for the first time." Several of the exhibitors made last-minute decisions to join the event.

Admission for the fair starting at 10 a.m. was $3 with discounts for seniors and students. Busch said the fair would hold training sessions for people who want more skills for the sorts of jobs that most amply available.

Hawaiian Airlines, which has been hiring hundreds during a period of rapid expansion, signed up for the fair. Busch said there was a lot of hiring in health care and information technologies.

Hawaii weekly jobless claims, which had been routinely near 15,000 until recently, fell below 14,000 in July and have been below 12,000 for the past two weeks. Since mid-July the number of first-time claimants each week has been below 2,000, and last week the figure was 1,629.
