Taxi driver attacked in Waikiki

WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police say a cab driver was attacked early Saturday morning in Waikiki. Police say the cab driver picked up the suspect on Nuuanu Avenue around 1:35 a.m. and drove him to the Waikiki International Market Place (IMP).

The driver stopped his cab and asked for the fee fronting the IMP. The male suspect punched the driver in the face while in the vehicle. The taxi drove off and stopped at Kaiulani Ave. and Koa Street where he got out of his van and yelled for help.

Police say the cab driver confronted the suspect who was still in cab, when the driver asked for the fee he was punched in the face again.

The suspect got out of the cab and started walking away towards Kalakaua Avenue.

The victim flagged down a police officer and pointed out the suspect.

The 59-year-old suspect was arrested.
