Kapolei, Oahu (HawaiiNewsNow) - A week ago, Hilo golfer Kevin Hayashi was all smiles after being awarded a sponsors exemption to play in the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship at the Kapolei golf course.

After round one, Hayashi has every reason to continue smiling.

Hayashi carded an even par 72 leaving him tied for 37th place, the highest amongst the five guys with Hawaii ties in the field.

Other 808 natives in the field include: former Kailua resident Scott Simpson (T68, 3-over par, 75), Honolulu resident Dave Echleberger (73rd, 4-over par, 76), Honolulu's David Ishii (T74, 5-over par, 77) and Oahu's Casey Nakama (81st, 9-over par, 81).

Australian Peter Senior leads the field after shooting a 65, 7-under par.
