Troop Homecoming, Movie Protests Spread, Bridge Closure

HAWAII TROOPS RETURN HOME

It's an extra special Aloha Friday for the families of more than 100 Hawaii Marines and Sailors. Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 362 is coming back from a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan's Helmand Province. The so called "Ugly Angels" were the last Marine Corps Base Hawaii helicopter squadron to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Ramsay will be live on base with more on their homecoming celebration on Sunrise.

BONES FOUND ON RAIL ROUTE, WHAT NOW?

What's next now that the first human bone has been uncovered along the planned Kakaako rail route. It was found three feet underground near the corner of Cooke and Halekauwila streets. State archaeologists are now trying to figure out if it's from an ancient burial. The City had just started excavating that area.. after the State Supreme court ruled in favor of a woman who filed suit to protect ancient burials along the planned route. The rail authority says it's following the protocol established in consultation with all concerned parties. On Monday, Mayor Peter Carlisle will be in our nation's capitol to discuss funding for Oahu's rail.

TOUR COMPANY PERMIT DECISION

Happening today, a Big Island tour company may be stripped of its state permit. It comes two months after 15 year old Tyler Madoff was swept to his death off Kealakekua Bay while on a tour with Hawaii Pack and Paddle. Today the DLNR board will consider whether to cancel the permit at a meeting in Honolulu.

MOVIE SPARKS INTERNATIONAL PROTESTS

We're following developing international news. A spike in violent protests following the release of an American made anti-Muslim film. Correspondent Tracie Potts will have the latest problems that broke out while you were sleeping ahead on Sunrise.

TRAFFIC ALERT: KARSTEN THOT BRIDGE CLOSURE

The Karsten Thot Bridge will close for repairs this Sunday. The only metal truss bridge on Oahu is so rusty and dangerous, the State is shutting it down for immediate repairs. It will be closed Sunday at midnight and stay shut for 6 weeks for replacement or repair of steel beams and rivets. Traffic will be rerouted onto Wilikina Drive and Kamananui Road around to Schofield Barracks.
