HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gas prices in Hawaii increased throughout the state for the fifth straight week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
The Hawaii state average price rose to $4.39, an increase of three cents from last week, 19 cents higher than last month and 17 cents higher than a year ago.
Honolulu's average price climbed to $4.33 a gallon for regular unleaded – one cent more than last week, 22 cents more than last month and 26 cents higher than a year ago at this time.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.35 a gallon, up three cents from last week, 19 cents more than last month and nine cents more than this time last year.
Wailuku's average is $4.45 a gallon, nine cents more than last week, 28 cents more than last month and six cents higher than last year.
"The climbing price of oil is the key factor in rising gas prices recently," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "We urge drivers to continue practicing gas-saving tactics such as driving more moderately, anticipating traffic in front and driving slower."
