HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Board of Water Supply will begin construction on its water system improvement project along Ward Avenue at the Kapiolani Boulevard intersection and will continue mauka towards Kinau Street starting October 1.
Roadwork will occur Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as well as during the evening when possible.
Drivers passing through the construction area should allow for additional drive time and expect traffic delays while taking the Kinau Street off-ramp from the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction, and also while on Ward Avenue in both the mauka and makai directions.
If it all possible, drivers are advised to take alternate routes.
The rehabilitation to the water system entails replacing 2,400 feet of distribution pipeline and is designed to improve fire protection, reduce the likelihood of emergency water main breaks, and enhance water service to residents and businesses in the area.
The water system improvement project is expected to be completed around May 2013.
