Local Connection: College Football

By: Rick Blangiardi

This week is that time of year that I love. College football gets underway and for all teams across the country, there's a special feeling about heading back to school and seeing inspiring young athletes at work.

As a former coach and player, I'm especially curious to see what first-year head coach Norm Chow has in store for us.

It's certainly not going to be easy taking on USC, considered in many polls to be the no. 1 team in the country. When the teams meet this Saturday in the LA coliseum, not many are expecting a win, but I am expecting to see improvement each and every week and an exciting new system that chow is putting into place.

I'm also looking forward to seeing new starting quarterback Sean Schroeder, a transfer from duke, and how he fits into that system. I would ask the fans to give the team time, support their efforts and to show up to as many home games as possible for coach chow's inaugural season. Remember the

Excitement that we all felt when he was selected to come home and lead this team?

As I said, classes are starting up and football is in the air.

Saturdays are fun again and all of us armchair quarterbacks and head coaches are ready to see what our hard-working young men have prepared for us up in Manoa.

We wish them all the best.
