Speed believed to be factor in fatal Ewa Beach motorcycle crash

Police say speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday in Ewa Beach.

The crash was reported at about 12:30 p.m.

According to investigators, the 45-year-old motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic when lost control of the bike.

Police say he hit a tree and was ejected into oncoming traffic where he was struck by a truck.

The 42-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt, police said.

Police closed down Kapolei Parkway in both directions while officers conducted their investigation. The roadway was reopened at about 4 p.m.

The death is the 45th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 39 at the same time last year.
