An upper level disturbance passing over Kauai is slowing our trade winds and destabilizing the atmosphere.
That, combined with moisture moving in from the northeast means showers are likely across the state Friday and Saturday.
Forecasters say there is a slight chance of thunderstorms Friday for Kauai and the leeward slopes of the Big Island. While the best chance of heavy showers will be over windward coasts and slopes, leeward areas may see some locally heavy downpours.
The upper low will move away from the islands Saturday and Sunday, and drier trade wind weather is expected Monday, continuing into next week.
