Officials from the Honolulu Fire Department say a small brush fire that burned near Waipahu Intermediate School late Thursday afternoon has been contained.
Between 15 and 25 firefighters responded to reports of a fire in an area with overgrown grass and brush just south of the school at around 6:30 p.m. It took units approximately 40 minutes to contain the fire, which burned only a few acres.
The area reportedly contained lots of green vegetation, which caused an increased amount of smoke during the incident.
Fire department officials say the fire was never a threat to any property or building structures, including those at Waipahu Intermediate.
Crews planned on remaining at the scene to extinguish any remaining hotspots until about 9:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
