The Department of Transportation Services (DTS) announced Thursday that TheBus will extend hours for Route 40 into the University of Hawaii-West Oahu (UHWO) campus starting Friday, September 7.
KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Currently, the Route 40 bus service to the UHWO campus ends with the 5:47 p.m. westbound run and the 5:59 p.m. eastbound run. DTS says it will now run Route 40 for extended hours in the eastbound direction only at the following times: 6:39 p.m., 7:31 p.m., 8:29 p.m., 9:23 p.m., and 10:23 p.m.
The eastbound Route 40 will allow students to reach the Waipahu Transit Center where they can transfer to a bus traveling west or continue their trip east.
Starting with the next driver sign up in December 2012, extended hours Route 40 service will be provided to the UHWO campus in both eastbound and westbound directions.
"We appreciate the cooperation that UH-West Oahu has shown us in working to implement this improvement for students, faculty and staff," said DTS Director Wayne Yoshioka.
"We're very appreciative to the city and DTS Director Wayne Yoshioka in particular for helping us to quickly bring this service online to ensure the safety of those students who attend evening classes here," said UH West Oahu Chancellor Gene Awakuni.
