PEARL HARBOR (HawaiiNewsNow) - The new U.S.S. Michael Murphy is on the first leg of its journey to Hawaii.

The destroyer was named after the Medal of Honor recipient and Pearl Harbor-based Navy Seal who was killed in Afghanistan.

The ship sailed out of a Maine shipyard on Wednesday and will be commissioned again on Oct. 6. It was originally commissioned on May 7, 2011, but went back into dry dock for work.

The ship's home port will be Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Murphy and four other Hawaii-based Seals were killed in a firefight and rescue mission in 2005, along with six other Navy Seals and eight Army special forces.
