HONOLULU – (Hawaii Athletics) The University of Hawai'i women's soccer
team concludes its six-match homestand when it hosts the Outrigger Hotels and
Resorts Soccer Classic, Sept. 7-9, at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Joining UH in the round-robin tournament are Ball State and Detroit.
UH (4-1-1) and Ball State (3-2) open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7
p.m., followed by a meeting between Ball State and Detroit (2-3) on Saturday,
Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The Rainbow Wahine will close the tournament vs. Detroit on
Sunday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. Admission is free for all matches.
After dropping its season opener at Nevada, the Rainbow Wahine have since gone
4-0-1. UH also looks to remain undefeated at home where it hasn't lost in its
last nine home matches (7-0-2) dating back to last year. The school record is
12 set during the 2007 season.
UH extended its streak this past weekend with a double-overtime tie versus
Drexel on Friday and a 3-0 win of BYU-Hawai'i on Monday. The shutout of the
Seasiders was UH's first of the season. The Rainbow Wahine have also continued
their scoring rampage. Hawai'i, which has found the back of the net 15 times in
its last five matches, leads the Big West in goals scored (15) and goals per
match (2.5).
Following the Classic, UH will hit the road for the second time this season
when they travel to Washington State (Sept. 14) and Eastern Washington (Sept.
16).
