HANA, Hawaii (AP) - An interisland airline will restore flights between Kahului and Hana.
It's been 12 years since Hana has seen flight service.
Hana resident and state Sen. J. Kalani English announced Wednesday Mokulele Airlines will provide the 20-minute Maui flights stating Oct. 1. Driving from Kahului to Hana can take at least two hours.
English is also chair of the state Senate committee on transportation and international affairs. He calls the new service a "lifeline" and says it's the first step in restoring flights at other rural airports.
He says the twice-daily flights will provide a boost for Hana's economy and its resort and spa, Travaasa Hana Maui. He also expects the flights to make services such as mail and newspaper delivery more efficient.
Ticket prices start at $59 each way.
