A lockdown at two windward Oahu schools has been lifted after a 16-year-old boy who escaped from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility (HYCF) in Kailua was captured.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the teenager escaped at about 9:26 a.m.
Olomana and Maunawili Elementary Schools and Kailua High School were put on lockdown.
At 2 p.m. he was spotted climbing a fence in a nearby residential area and was arrested and taken back to the Kailua facility.
The lockdown at Olomana and Maunawili Elementary Schools was lifted after the teenager was captured. The lockdown at Kailua High was lifted at 10:43 a.m.
Officials with HYCF say the teen was not armed and was not a threat to the community.
