HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)-The Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter will present the 2012 Oahu Walk To End Alzheimer's at Magic Island on Saturday, September 8.
Registration for the 3-mile walk (with shorter 1- and 2-mile options) begins at 6 a.m., followed by an energetic Zumba warm-up with instructor Jen Hintnaus. The walk itself begins at 7 a.m. Emcee is Trini Kaopuiki. Title sponsor is Hawaii State Federal Credit Union; other sponsors are Hale Kuike, Hiolani Care Center, The Plaza Assisted Living, HMSA, Manoa Senior Care and MDX Hawaii.
More than 31,000 Hawaii residents have Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Medical research teams are making great strides toward understanding and slowing the progression of this devastating disease. The public's participation in the Walk To End Alzheimer'sTM will provide much needed funds for caregiver counseling, support and training programs offered throughout Hawaii by the Aloha Chapter, the local affiliate of the national Alzheimer's Association. They are the leading voluntary health organization involved with Alzheimer's research, care and support. The Alzheimer's Association mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
