Wildfire Threat, Hawaii Democrats on National Stage, HPU Starts

HAWAII DEMOCRATS AT NATIONAL CONVENTION

38 Hawaii Democrats are in Charlotte, including U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, Governor Neil Abercrombie and Congressional candidate Tulsi Gabbard. The three day convention starts today. Hawaii's delegation will have prime seats during President Obama's acceptance speech Thursday at the Democratic National Convention.

TULSI GABBARD TO ADDRESS CONVENTION

Congressional candidate Tulsi Gabbard is rehearsing for her big moment in the national spotlight. The former City Council member was a last minute add to speak at the Democratic National Convention after her win in the Primary. Sunrise correspondent Tracie Potts caught up with Gabbard in Charlotte. Coming up on Sunrise, hear what she has to say about addressing her Party on a national stage tonight and what the exposure could mean for her political future.

RED FLAG WARNING TODAY FOR ALL ISLANDS

Strong trade winds and dry conditions create prime conditions for wildfires. The National Weather Service has just issued a red flag warning from 10 this morning until 6 tonight. Ben Gutierrez is tracking the severe weather threat on Sunrise.

HAWAII RED CROSS ISAAC RELIEF

Nearly one week after Isaac hit the Gulf Coast, tens of thousands of people are still without power. Close to 3-thousand are still in shelters. Hawaii's 21 Red Cross volunteers tell us they're working 22 hours a day. They're expected to be there for another 2 to 3 weeks.

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY STARTS TODAY

The fall semester starts today for 8-thousand Hawaii Pacific University students. We'll help you beat the traffic with updates every 10 minutes on Sunrise.

UH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SEARCH MEETING

Happening today, the 13 member 13 committee will meet for the first time to begin the search for the next Athletics Director for the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Three members, including Head Football Coach Norm Chow and Women's Volleyball Coach Dave Shoji have already endorsed Acting AD Rockne Freitas before the search officially starts. Several members complain that's unfair and say those coaches should be removed from the committee.

Plus, she was the object of affection in Wayne's World, won 2 Grammys, and competed on Dancing with the Stars and Celebrity Apprentice.
