SALT LAKE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds of young athletes spent the weekend improving their skills on the hardwood.
It's all part of the Kalakaua Basketball Clinic at Moanalua High School. Coach Dennis Agena started the camp more than 40 years ago.
Since then, his assistants say the event has grown to be about much more than just basketball.
"He pushes education, he follows up and helps the kids tutoring sessions, how they are doing in school. He takes the kids who have the best attendance and perform the most community service, he takes them to Las Vegas and Oregon to travel, to have opportunities, to get college exposure", said coach Dwayne Yuen.
This is the first time a skills clinic is being held on Labor Day weekend.
