Hawaii's gas prices jump for third straight week

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gas prices in Hawaii increased throughout the state for a third consecutive week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The state's average price jumped to $4.31 for a gallon of regular unleaded. That's a five cents increase from last week, 17 cents higher than last month, and 23 cents higher than a year ago.

The average price in Honolulu climbed to $4.26. That number is up four cents from last week, 18 cents from last month, and 29 cents than a year ago.

Drivers in Hilo are paying an average price of $4.29 per gallon -- an increase of four cents from last week, 17 cents more than last month, and 14 cents more than this time last year.

Over on the Valley Isle, Wailuku is averaging $4.34 a gallon. According to AAA Hawaii, the price jumped eight cents from last week, 16 cents from last month, and a penny lower than last year.

"Prices increased again over the past week and AAA members should take advantage of the last days to get a 10-cent-per-gallon discount for each gas purchase at Aloha Island Marts on Maui, Oahu and the Big Island," AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson said.

According to Peterson, the promotion ends on Friday, Aug. 31.
