(HawaiiNewsNow) - The Taste of Mauna Lani festival is a month-long event, where restaurants located within the Mauna Lani Resort will be offering special menus and are giving a portion of their proceeds to the Food Basket!
The third annual Taste of Mauna Lani will run from Tuesday September 4 through Sunday, September 30, 2012. The restaurants participating in Taste of Mauna Lani include Tommy Bahamas, Ruth's Chris, Monstera Japanese restaurant and CanoeHouse restaurant. CanoeHouse at Mauna Lani Bay will be offering a prix-fixe three course dinner for $48 using the best and freshest Big Island ingredients.
Chef Allen Hess from CanoeHouse came on Sunrise to give a preview of what diners can enjoy for Taste of Mauna Lani. He made his famous goat tacos, that are Waimea raised, Korean braised and served with spicy Daikon salsa and in a crispy Bao Bun. These are one of the most popular appetizers on the CanoeHouse menu.
Chef Allen's food has a 'slow food' take on Hawaii Regional Cuisine. He is a huge advocate of partnering with local farmers. In 2010 he was selected to represent Slow Food Hawaii at the annual Terra Madre conference in Torino, Italy. Terra Madre gathers sustainable food producers, farmers, chefs, educators and activists from around the world to connect and share their stories and traditions,in addition to determining innovative solutions for keeping small-scale agriculture and sustainable food production alive and well.
