IRVINE, Calif. – (Hawaii Athletics) University of Hawai'i sophomore forward Tiana Fujimoto has been named
the Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week following her MVP performance in
this past weekend's OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi tournament.
Fujimoto scored three total goals to help lift the Rainbow Wahine to the
tournament title with wins over Sacred Heart (2-1) and Utah Valley (2-1, OT).
The Honolulu native scored both of UH's goals in the win over Sacred Heart,
including the game-winner in the 85th minute. She also scored in the tournament
championship match versus Utah Valley, equalizing the score in the first half
just 16 seconds after Utah Valley took a 1-0 lead.
Fujimoto, who has a team-leading four goals, has scored in three straight
matches, the first Rainbow Wahine to accomplish the feat since 2009. Her play
has helped the team win three straight matches, also last accomplished in 2009,
while UH has extended its home undefeated streak to seven matches (6-0-1)
dating back to last season.
The award is Fujimoto's first-ever conference honor. Fujimoto and her
teammates will look to maintain its winning ways when it hosts a pair of
matches this weekend, starting with a meeting versus Drexel on Friday, Aug. 31.
Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
