(HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawaii at Manoa nurses and engineers are part of the Pacific Partnership team that is finishing up a summer-long journey to Southeast Asia, visiting Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, where they will complete their mission this week. Pacific Partnership - "Preparing in Calm to Respond in Crisis" - is an annual Pacific Fleet humanitarian and civic assistance mission to build stronger relationships and disaster response capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.
Pacific Partnership brings together eight partner nations, 12 non-government organizations, and the capabilities of the hospital ship USNS Mercy in Cambodia. It is the largest annual humanitarian and civic assistance mission in the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring that the international community is better prepared to work together as a coordinated force when disaster, such as an earthquake or tsunami, strikes.
