KAIMUKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Fire investigators say a house fire Friday morning in Kaimuki, was intentionally set.

The fire broke just before 6:10 a.m. in a single-story home located on Koko Head Avenue near Sierra Drive.

According to officials, heavy flames were spotted when fire crews arrived to the scene.

One of the residents told Hawaii News Now that he woke up after the fire started in the kitchen. He then ran outside to look for a phone, but realized neighbors had already called the fire department.

The two owners, who also live in the home, escaped unharmed.

Crews had the fire under control at about 6:50 a.m.

No other structures were damaged by the flames. The damage is estimated at more than $265,000.

HFD says the case will now be turned over to the Honolulu Police Department, who will conduct their own arson investigation with the help of Fire Department officials.
