We have been treated to one of the most wonderful Olympics competition in memory.
Whether it be the mastery of Michael Phelps, the artistry of Gabby Douglas or the sheer joy on the face of Missy Franklin, we witnessed some of the best performances that athletes can muster during the past 17 days in London.
Closer to home, we marveled at the skills of our Hawaii athletes, including Lindsey Berg, Clarissa Chun, Kyla Ross and Clay Stanley. Across the us, which set new TV Olympic viewing records and across the globe, we had a chance to forget our worries, gather our families together, and rediscover what has made us great: the human spirit and the thrill of competition at the highest levels.
I've often heard it said that television often brings us bad news and that we dwell too much on the negative. But for the past two weeks, we have had a chance to celebrate all that is wonderful in the world.
With all the conflict we usually see between countries, it's refreshing to watch the best and the brightest of 204 countries competing in the 2012 games.
I am pleased and proud that we have been able to host these games over our KHNL airwaves and i trust you are as inspired by all that you have seen. And remember: it's just a little over 500 more days until the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014!
