KUNIA (HawaiiNewsNow)- A Honolulu police officer is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning.
EMS officials say the 29-year-old male was hit on the H-1 freeway, eastbound direction near the Fort Weaver onramp around 7:30 a.m.
According to the HPD traffic division, the officer was assisting a car that spun out and hit the guardrail. While he was out of his vehicle, a 1998 BMW lost control on the onramp and pinned him against the police car.
The officer was transported to the Queen's Medical Center.
It's unknown if the 56-year-old driver was speeding, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
HPD says the roadway was wet and that could have contributed to the crash.
No arrests were made.
