(HawaiiNewsNow) - The Niu Valley Canal Pulama Wai clean up project is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18th in the morning at 8:30. People island-wide are encouraged to come down and help with the Bay clean up.
Graham Builders, RevoluSun and MW Group have all come together to fund the project and is working closely with the community, the Niu Valley Shopping Center and Malama Maunalua Bay to deliver the manpower to help clean up this area. The goal is to challenge other local businesses and/or neighborhoods groups to step up and do their part to help the bay.
Malama Maunalua Bay is implementing these neighborhood water run-off improvement pilot projects under its new Pulama Wai initiative. Malama Maunalua helps community volunteers coordinate and get set up with the project with the hopes that (once set-up) they will take the lead and be able to keep the project going long term. Malama Maunalua Bay with a staff of only three cannot do this. Community and business leaders are needed to lead, schedule and work these projects with Malama Maunalua Bay offering support however needed by the group. Malama Maunalua Bay's goal is to help create many self-sufficient and sustainable groups as possible in the Maunalua Bay region doing this type of work which addressed water runoff issues and erosion.
