NORTH SHORE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The State Department of Health is advising the public to stay out of waters between Kuilima Cove and Kawela Bay after sewage spilled near the Kuilima Hotel.
Officials say up to 28,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the water due to a broken pipe. Up to 20,000 gallons may have entered into a storm drain, which eventually empties into the ocean. At this time, engineers are unsure of the exact amount of sewage that has reached the ocean.
According to the DOH, the flow has stopped, warning signs are posted in the area, and water samples will be taken.
The public is advised to stay out of the area until warning signs are removed.
