BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Waikoloa man involved in a two-vehicle crash last month on Queen Kaahumanu Highway has died.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Wyland K.B. Damaso.

On July 30, Damaso was operating a 2012 Ford four-door sedan while traveling north on the highway near Kaiminani Drive. He then crossed the center line and collided with a 2001 Isuzu van.

Damaso was initially transported to the Kona Community Hospital. He was later transferred to the Queen's Medical Center on Oahu where he died Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the van, a 54-year-old Kailua Kona man, was treated and released from Kona Community Hospital.

Police say both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

It is unknown at this time if speed, drugs or alcohol were factors.

A negligent homicide investigation has been opened.

This is the 24th traffic fatality on the Big Island in 2012, compared to 15 at the same time in 2011.
