WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An elderly man from Wailuku is dead after he was struck by a commercial vehicle Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at about 6:45 a.m. when a yellow 2000 Kenworth commercial truck tractor hit the man at the intersection of Eha and Waena Streets.

According to police, the tractor's operator failed to stop at a posted stop sign and turned right on to Eha Street, running over the victim who was in a marked crosswalk.

The victim was identified as Bomani Kim, 87, of Wailuku. He died at the scene.

Police shut down Eha Street between Imikala and Kolu Streets for a portion of the morning. The road has since reopened.

It is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
