Crash leaves motorcyclist in extremely critical condition

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 27-year-old man crashed his motorcycle on Sand Island Access Road and has since died.

Honolulu Police said the crash happened at 3:40 p.m. Saturday near the University of Hawaii Marine Center and the U.S. Coast Guard station. Investigators said the man was riding a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at a high rate of speed when he lost control. The motorcycle then crashed into a street sign and then collided with a light pole.

The man was transported to the Queen's Medical Center in extremely critical condition, authorities said.

Police closed the Honolulu-bound lanes of Sand Island Access Road and contra-flowed the south-bound lanes while they investigated. Officers said the rider was wearing a helmet.
